# Private projects

Here I present my involvement with the Bellikon museum association as well as other personal projects.

Understanding urban heat islands in Swiss cities

## Swiss Microclimate Simulator

Why does Carouge or Emmen get so much hotter in summer than the surrounding countryside – and what helps? The simulator shows how asphalt, permeable paving, buildings, green spaces, trees and green roofs affect a neighbourhood's air and surface temperature. The calculation is based on Stanford University's InVEST Urban Cooling Model (60% tree shade, 20% albedo, 20% evaporation) and roughly calibrated against figures from the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and ETH Zurich.

- Presets for Swiss municipalities such as Carouge, Emmen, Zurich, Geneva, Riehen or Vevey
- 24-hour cycle through to the tropical night, plus a duel mode comparing two locations side by side
- Interactive swisstopo map with a heat-island layer and a 3D neighbourhood view
- Metrics such as cooling capacity, surface temperature and air-conditioning energy saved

A hobby project for exploring the relationships in a playful way – not a scientific model for location-specific forecasts. The simulator itself is in German.

- AI ethicsI am convinced that AI is here to stay, in one form or another. To use AI properly – as we can and should – we need an ethical approach. I am currently developing a framework based on existing insights from research and practice.
